Fun & Easy Cat Diys for The Purr-fect Party
a birthday picnic for a 12 year old girl who loves cats

Furry Cat Ears
These are super fun to make and can be customized in a zillion ways. We used faux fur, hot glue, and supplies leftover from previous crafts.

A few helpful tips
Whisker Wands
We had so much fun designing these as a photo prop. We used pipe cleaners, pom poms, and a wooden dowel for the base. The dowel can be wrapped in yarn or ribbon…the possibilities are endless.

Yarn Surprise Balls
Meri Meri sells surprise party favors in many different shapes to match their themes. We took inspiration from theirs and came up with yarn balls to match our cat party. These were sooo easy to make…my 12 year old daughter did all of the work. I think we received the most compliments on this diy during the party.
We used “fillable ornament balls” that came in a pack with an assortment of sizes. They are available on Amazon here. Once you’ve chosen the yarn, it’s just a matter of gluing it to the ball. We used hot glue and left a bit of yarn hanging to look like a cat had started having fun with it.
Since it was a picnic, we wanted the containers to be lightweight and easy to pack. My daughter used paint pens to decorate acrylic party items from a craft store. This one fit the yarn balls perfectly.

Cupcake Toppers
My daughter used Canva to add little party hats to cat pictures she found online. Then, we glued them to premade cupcake toppers purchased at a craft store. You can find the ones we used here.
They turned out so cute on top of our giant cupcakes! I was seriously worried about bugs during the picnic since the cupcakes which were too large to fit under anything made for cakes. Luckily, a piece of finely woven tulle did the trick and the toppers were still very visible.

Transforming a Beach Wagon into a Party Table
This idea can be used for picnics, small craft shows, or any type of small display you need. The trick is to have a board that fits the top of your wagon and fabrics to create the tablecloth…that’s it! We used a dry erase board that fits perfectly and added tulle to a pink tablecloth and around the handle of the wagon.
We were able to roll all of the supplies into the park and set up in about 15 minutes. Since we had a garland and balloons to display, we parked it near a tree and zip tied a curtain rod to the handle. You could also use a wood dowel from a craft store. Just remember to bring scissors in order to take the zip ties off after the party.
