Best Way to Organize Craft Supplies

I’m a lifelong crafter and have 2 kids that have crafted from todder to teen years. As a naturally unorganized person, I have tried many many methods to keep my supplies put away. Each time it worked for a short period and then the mess was overwhelming yet again. I finally faced the fact that I don’t need the most aesthetic craft room possible…I need the most functional one. For example, I always tried to do things like jars full of pom poms that look so great on a floating shelf. The reality is that I had to dump them all out to get the ones on the bottom after removing a top…then, replacing the top. I also had to dust around multiple jars on open shelving. It’s just so much easier to open a door and grab a box of pom poms. I can sift through them without them falling out of the box and then I shove it right back on the shelf. I had to make everything ridiculously easy so I would do it. It’s also been super helpful to have the supplies in all white matching boxes. When I open the doors, it’s so easy to locate what I need very quickly by just scanning the boxes. The colorful supplies stand out against the white and the boxes are the right size to see everything in them at a glance.

I feel like almost everything will fit into one of the two sizes offered. Of course, you will have craft items that are too large for this bookcase. This idea is meant for the tools and supplies used most. Every crafter will have different things but I’m betting these bins will hold most of it. For larger items, I also have a kallax with the square rattan boxes. This is also great but when the boxes are filled, I have to “dig” through it which I don’t enjoy. I do think the kallax is great with inserts for separating papers and I love the drawer inserts.

Blue Caddy with Handle

We have two of these. The handle makes it easy to take to other rooms. One holds over 100 paint pens of various sizes. The other is used for tools that are needed often. It holds scissors, cordless glue gun, glue sticks, a ruler, pen, pencils, etc.

  • Ikea Billy Bookcases with doors – also looks great without doors and is more affordable – available with half doors as well
  • Uppdatera Bins both sizes – I recommend choosing all one color to help keep it easy to scan what’s inside – I love the white because I can quickly see the colorful items inside
  • Blue Caddy with Handle – available in multiple colors
  • Paint Pens – I wanted to mention these because my daughter loves them so much and uses them for tons of different crafts
